Project Management Excellence
After some excellent years at UUNET, time has come for
me to build on my experience and make myself
available to other organisations
I had the great opportunity to develop teams and
structures, deploy new PM strategies and processes as
well as train over 120 people in the skillful art
of Project Management.
In my view Project Management is not simply a series of
tools and processes, documents and reports. Methodology
is not everything.
Planning and documenting is only 20% of the Project
Manager's work.
The bulk, and the whole art, is mainly to
communicate with your stakeholders, motivate your
resources as well as negotiate with internal or
external suppliers.
Project Management is NOT about how busy you are, but
about WHAT you actually ACHIEVE. Your focus needs to
constantly be on the business case and even if the
Executive (your boss) is responsible for
the projects you are allocated to, YOU ARE
responsible for the RESULTS...
Don't focus on Activities,
focus on Achievements.
This approach has allowed to attain great results
within UUNET.
